netea GmbH was founded April 2004 by managing directors Michael Fromme and Andreas Berge in Hannover. The focus of the company is the development and implementation of systems for network security and communications as well as IT services in general.

In March 2006 netea presented the new netea smartway at CeBIT. netea smartway is a VoIP telehony solution and integrates a SIP telephony exchange with a network security device (Internet access, Firewall, VPN).
